Quarterly Reflection on the Contemplative Life:
What Readers Say:"
Thank you for another fine and holy issue of Making Haqqodesh (Holy Ground)! It is a joy to receive such wisdom. I reviewed Gerald May's new book on the Dark Night last year, and your short article shows the same hopeful understanding. Topeka is so blessed to have you! Blessing and much peace." - Richard Rohr
Letters From The Holy Ground
"God gives us everything we need to be happy in the present moment no matter what evidence to the contrary there may be. A good spiritual director helps us to sustain that trust"
What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is one person assisting another to discover and live out in the context of the Christian community his or her deepest values and life goals in response to God's initiative - Elizabeth Liebert, San Francisco Theological Seminary.
" Thank you very much for guiding us through a wonderful weekend of discernment at the recent Vocationers’ Retreat.
I learned a great deal about my own sense of call and what it means to be the body of Christ engaged in a time of mutual discernment. "
- Philip Hubbards
Retreats, Workshops and Presentations
Apprehend God in all things, for God is in all things. Every single creature is full of God and a book about God. Every creature is a word of God.
If I spent enough time with the tiniest creature
- even a caterpillar
- I would never have to prepare a sermon.
So full of God is every creature.

Presentations are arranged with local committees and are designed to meet the needs of various groups. They range in length from an hour to several days. Presentations may include a seasonal or Biblical focus, as well as time for worship, prayer, and exercises to help deepen and expand relationships with God. They may be a simple as readings from the writings of Loretta’s own drama, poetry, and prose to structured learning experiences in prayer and contemplation, and aspects of spiritual formation, such as discernment, stages of spiritual maturing, individual and group spiritual guidance. Such engagements may include Sunday morning preaching. Fees are negotiated with each client or church organization. The Sanctuary occasionally offers small group experiences at our office in Topeka, Kansas or at other local venues. Watch our website calendar and Facebook page for notice of these events.
